There's a specific sound an exhaust makes — not every exhaust, and not all the time, but occasionally, at the right RPM, on the right machine — that stops a genuine motorhead mid-sentence. Doesn't matter what they were saying. Doesn't matter who they were saying it to. For a second, the conversation just pauses.
That's not noise. Not to us. It's music.
Why a gramophone
The artwork pairs an engine with a gramophone on purpose. A gramophone doesn't create sound — it plays back something that was already recorded, already composed. That's exactly how an exhaust note works. The engine is the instrument. Horsepower is what's being played. The note that comes out is the composition.
We called it Horsepower Symphony because that's the most literal, honest name for what it actually is: a piece of music written by horsepower, performed through steel and exhaust gas, for an audience of exactly the people who understand what they're listening to.
Everyone else just hears noise. That's fine. This artwork was never for them.
